PhotoReading

Posted on May 3rd, 2006 by Diana : EGOhunter Diana
I feel kind of guilty at the moment as I don't find enough time to spend on my blog over here and talking, sharing ideas and having fun with my zaadzter friends :-( Reason is my upcoming TMA for the Open University...I am not getting on with reading for the moment and I don't want to spend all my precious reading time with this course...I have sooooo many interesting books on my shelf waiting for me, gosh, it's frustrating! Today I got something on my post from Centerpointe presenting it's new product named PhotoReading. Is this a sign??? well, I don't really believe in that but I listened to the CD included and it really sounded like something I really need now. Well, I started searching the web for more information and stumbled over tons of websites talking about it! Am I missing something right now? is there anyone of you who might be able to report more on PhotoReading? Please feel free to feed my curiosity...I need it ;-) Oh, and i promise to be more present next week! Diana

Never heard of it! I'd better get busy. Sounds like something someone in my shoes ought to know about it. Thanks for the tip. I'll ask the other techno-librarians around here if they know anything.

Oh wow…. I've now had three instances where Centerpointe (Holosync) has come up!! Very curious now…. as I tend to follow these types of messages to see “where it takes me” or “what am I to learn from this”…  I've heard very good things about it so far… but I do feel the need to investigate it for myself.

Hi Diana and Kelly,

Okay.  I gather that photoreading is related to speed reading, in that you train your mind to absorb a large amount of text quickly. I don't have a lot of faith in it, frankly, because it would take a highly trained and disciplined mind to be able to have the focus necessary. The fact that it is “for sale,” makes me more suspicious. My mother taught me to let my mind relax and “see” the words/sentences without really “reading,” when I was in second grade (made an impression!). It was good for quickly getting through something I didn't really want to read, but for real comprehension (long term) and enjoyment, the old-fasioned subvocalization was the only way to go.

Now, what I don't get is why Centerpointe is in on this. I thought it was the Learning Strategies Center that sold that product. Well, I've started looking at it anyway. Maybe it'll become clearer the more I look around.

If you know more, please clue me in!

Big hugs to you, too, Diana!

I got the same thing.  But haven't looked at it.  Seems like it's about the third or fourth outside product the holosync folks have sent out promotional material for.  I haven't looked at the other ones either.

I kind of like reading slowly.

I kind of like reading and savouring my books slowly too BUT sometimes it would be great to just get on with things you have to read…I would never photoread a book by Ken Wilber ;-)

Well, yesterday I downloaded the ebook ”The Photoreading Whole Mind System” by Paul R. Scheele  and of course started reading it (instead of the things I should be reading…). It sounds good…

Concerning Centerpointe: I can only talk about “Holosync” which I still use for meditating and I really recommend it. It's a good tool to help you in your meditation, specially if you are under time preassure.

I think my problem is time and I am aware of the fact, that we tend to seek for even more and better for everything but I realized that I only show interest when it has something to do with improving myself, not others, no better and faster  technologies. It is a kind of chalenge to see if I can tame my own mind…

Keep you informed!

Diana
